F.A.Q.

Why do your candles vary in price?

The simple answer is the cost of essential oils vary greatly. This is often due to the yield (the amount of oils that can be extracted from the plant material). With Rose, for example, 30-40kg of Rose petals produce just 10ml of aromatic oil.  One of our aims in starting Heartwood Candle Company was for our pricing to be fair, reasonable and representative of the true value of the oils we use.

Why should I burn my candle for at least 1.5 hours the first time?

The first time that you use your candle you should let it burn until the melt pool (liquified wax) reaches the edge of the glass ( approximately 1.5-2 hours). Each time after that, ideally burn until you've fully reestablished the melt pool. This will prevent "tunnelling" and allow the best "scent throw". We know this all sounds a bit technical, but will ensure you get the most out of your candle!

What is the burn time?

Our candles last approximately 25- 30 hours.

Our outdoor votive candles approximately 10-15 hours.

Why do I need to keep my wick trimmed?

Keeping your wick trimmed is very important! Before each use, make sure (by hand is the easiest) that you take the top of the wick off so that it remains approximately 5mm in height. A long wick can smoke.
